Guidelines for Submitting News Stories

News Story Topics

The largest single requirement for news stories is that they must have at least one source.  If a link is provided to a relevant Journal abstract, you have certainly earned my respect, and will probably be asked to become a moderator or administrator.

  • Those that address health effects on humans or effects on wildlife
  • Those that discuss past fundraisers/protests (not advertisements)
  • Those that offer new solutions to the leaking well OR spill cleanup
  • Those that discuss volunteer efforts
  • The indadequacies of government or industry response
  • A summary of another news story/photojournalism study from another source
  • Other topics that are closely related to those above

Topics that are Forbidden

I have the ability to ban IP addresses.  Don't make me do it, please.

  • Those that introduce unsubstantiated claims and opinions (i.e. that "Obama is a moron..." or that "Tony Hayward should go to hell...").  These can go in the forum, where everyone else can tear you apart.
  • Those which are are offensive and/or racist
  • Regurgitating links.  We aren't baby birds.  There is an entire page dedicated to a list of community-provided links.

Other Thoughts

This page is meant, primarily, to be an exercise in community journalism, not an "editorial section."  That being said, please try to write articles in a clear, objective manner.  They don't have to be 10 miles long, but more than a paragraph would be a welcomed change to the typical FaceBook post or SlashDot story.
