Event Types that Are Encouraged

Ready to post an event?  The world needs you to help organize your friends and acquaintences to help clean up the oil spill, and this is a great place to start.  The following sections outline/describe the different types of events that should be placed on the community calendar.

Have an idea for an event type that isn't discussed here?  Contact us and let us know.

Peaceful Protests

Any peaceful protests are allowed.  We discourage angry mobs...they are completely useless when trying to express the opinion of a group.  Flash mobs have been successful in the Boycott BP movement, although the police have had to get involved.  Sit-ins, flash mobs, picket-signs, and other forms of protest are strongly encouraged.  The most crucial information for these is the EXACT LOCATION (Google maps is useful for expressing an exact location) and EXACT TIME.

Fundraising Events

Fundraising events are also encouraged.  Please donate the proceeds to a reputable charity, and then report your success on the community news page (or simply add a link).  We want to hear about the successes of our brothers and sisters!

Call for Boycott

Want to call for a boycott of a single station for a day?  We know that everyone is boycotting BP to the best of their ability, but if one station owner is particularly 'behind' BP, let us know, so that we can do our best to make that station bare!  Can also be coupled with a protest.

Informational Event

Informational events (such as town hall meetings or informational videoconferences) are very valuable to the local community especially in the event of a media blackout.  Online videoconferences (such as Livestreams, or streams using another service) are encouraged, especially when properly advertised in advance.

Volunteer Group Trip

Planning an organizational (i.e. mission) trip to the Gulf?  Going to organize local boaters to collect used booms?  (Best of luck not being stopped by B.P., by the way.)  We certainly encourage these helpful activities, especially if they involve collecting trash or saving sea turtles.  Please announce them to help your cause grow!
